![]() The Qur'an refutes this baseless charge and affirms that Lot was designated by God to work as His Messenger among his people.* One of the many accusations recorded gainst Lot in the Bible - and the Bible has been tampered with extensively by the Jews - is that Lot migrated to Sodom after an argument with Abraham (Genesis 13: 10-12). The people of Sodom have been referred to as the people of Lot presumably because Lot may have established matrimonial ties with those people. Later God bettowed prophethood upon him and assigned to him the mission of reforming his misguided people. Lot sojourned to Syria, Palestincand Egypt forawhile and gained practical experience of preaching his message. The Prophet Lot who was a nephew of the Prophet Abraham, accompanied his uncle as he moved away from Iraq. If anything remains as a reminder of this nation it is the Dead Sea which is also called the Sea of Lot. So much so that it is difficult to even locate the main cities which they inhabited. However, the whole nation was destroyed and today wc can find no trace of it. Apart from Sodom, according to the Talmud, there were four other majour cities, and the land lying between these cities was dotted with such greenery and orchards that the whole area looked like one big garden enchanting any onlooker. According to the Bible, its capital town was Sodom, which is situated either somewhere near the Dead Sea, or presently lies submerged under it. The land inhabited by the people of Lot, which lies between Iraq and Palestine, is known as Trans-Jordan. (7:80) And remember when We sent Lot Lot when he said to his people, "Do meaning Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi When the flood came to the people of Nuh (pbuh) it did not exclude kids, although one may correctly argue that kids at the time where innocent.ولوطا إذ قال لقومه أتأتون الفاحشة ما سبقكم بها من أحد من العالمين سورة: الأعراف - آية: ( 80 ) - جزء: ( 8 )Īnd Lut who said to his people: Do you commit such an immorality as is contrary to the general inherent character and moral constitution and never has it been practiced by Humans before As a general rule note that based on the Sunnah of the Almighty when a nation rejects their messenger despite knowing the truth of his message, the punishment of God (in principal) targets the entire nation, not just the direct criminals. ![]() The reason they were punished was that the messenger of God (Lut - pbuh) communicated the path of the truth with them clearly yet they did not submit to it. None of the above crimes were 'the' reason for which people of Lut (pbuh) were punished. It is difficult to imagine a society where half of them are so evil while the other half who interact with them are totally innocent.Ģ. However even if they were not, the above is not the picture of a society where only men were criminals and women were chaste and innocent. ![]() It is not unlikely that women too were involved in same sex relations. The entire society was corrupted by evil acts that included male homosexuality, attacking travelers (implying robbing and raping them) and doing the most disgusting acts openly. It is easy to understand from the above that the verse is not referring to only one gender (men) from the people of Lut (pbuh). And the answer of his people was not but they said, "Bring us the punishment of God, if you should be of the truthful." (29:29) ![]() "Do you approach men and obstruct the road and commit evil in your gatherings. The Qur'an counts three main sins for them, although all apparently of the same nature: According to Quran only Prophet Lut and his family minus his wife survived.ġ. It is correct to say that the Qur'an considers male homosexuality as one of the main sins of the people of Lut. So why were the women ( or some) of that nation not saved. When we read the Quran about the fate of nation of Lut, the principle sin they were guilty of was (male) homosexuality. ![]()
